René Portocarrero [La Habana 1912-La Habana 1985]  
  Paints from an early age. Although he began at the San Alejandro art school his temperament prefers to study painting of his own accord. He is considered one of the most diverse painters of this avant-garde.

1923 Exhibits in the Salón de Bellas Artes of the Association of Painters and Sculptors of Habana.

  1934 Realizes his first personal exhibition in the Lyceum of La Habana.
1939 Professor of Estudio Livres of painting and sculpture.  
  1943 Teaches drawing to prisoners in La Habana. Travels through Europe, the United States and Haiti.

1945 1st exhibition abroad in the Julian Levy Gallery, New York, US.

Publishes two volumes El Sueño y La Máscaras and illustrates other works by various Cuban authors.

Realizes important murals during this time.

  1985 Dies in La Habana, Cuba.
